For April’s CRANK MOB, we clowned around at the starting point, then we rode bikes through WestLA, went to Culver City, had a dance + costume contest in Media Park, witnessed bike jousting in a Vons parking lot, jumproped at some random 7-eleven as usual, rode through Beverly Center parking lot, went to WeHo, got harassed by numskull coppers, regrouped in Century City, partied at gas station, ended with share-cuts. We rode pretty far, but the miles add up quick when you’re having fun.
Without further ado, I give you… the Media:

The second week of ibikeu Wiki’s launch was great. Views continued to rise, and editing continued to increase. ibikeu is getting indexed higher by Google on a daily basis so, even though we have yet to seriously promote the wiki, ibikeu received significant international traffic from desirable vacation locales such as Argentina, Ireland, and Taiwan. Last week we unveiled the ibikeu Wiki, a wiki for all things bike, and then I spent the next three days refreshing the stats counter. The first week was a great success. During the two months when the wiki was private there were only 2176 pageviews, 616 edits, and 46 pages of content. This week the ibikeu Wiki had 8927 pageviews, was edited 1072 times, and the total number of content pages almost tripled to 130. That’s astronomical growth!
Editor of the week SP00K (aka Kyle Hertler), together with E-rock and other editors, took the wiki in a new direction, using it to document the myriad of freak bikes that the Los Angelopes built.

Friday I wrote about what I think is a gap in the cycling communities knowledge sharing. Here’s a partial solution - the ibikeu Wiki!
The ibikeu Wiki is intended to document everything bike, from social rides like Santa Monica Critical Mass, to broad topics like the history of bicycles or bicycle infrastructure terminology.
For the time being the wiki is open for public viewing but not editing/contributing by the public. If you would like to contribute, as an editor or otherwise, please email me at alexcthompson at gmail dot com.

How many times have you been on a Critical Mass or Midnight Ridazz and been asked “What is this? Where can I find out about this?” by a motorist or pedestrian. For me it’s like a million. Every time I feel stumped. What’s a good answer. I’d point them to Midnight Ridazz but it’s hard to spell. Usually I just tell them to Google “critical mass”.

Last week I polled y’all to find out if you wanted me to post the articles I’m writing for the LA Times blog Emerald City here as well. Ten people voted yes, four voted no, and four voted for posting only the stuff I thought you’d like. That’s not exactly a mandate for the “yes”s, and the “no”s were pretty mean, so I’m going a third way. I’ll post an excerpt and a link from each piece.
My first post at Emerald City was fluffy piece that basically said “cyclists are humans too.” That might be pretty uninteresting but it’s actually a key piece of every activist cyclist’s reportoire: the elevator speech, transformed into blog form.

CRank Mob participants produce an amazing quantity of media. Lately after each ride there are an insane number of photos, a couple video recaps, and poetic testimonials surface. So here it is in CRANK Mob recap part 2.

Part 2 of the Recap
March CRANK Mob was attacked by four wheeled beasts! We subdued them and made them our pets. The largest beast, The Box, is Richie’s experiment in RVing. The Box accompanied CRANK Mob to each stop and provided another sound system as well as base for many riders. Richie, Marcus, Franz and others spray painted FUN slogans and faces on the Box, to get it the RV into the C Mob spirit.
