Bike Events in February

Published by Alex Thompson at 1:57 pm under FUN

Santa Monica Critical Mass kicks off February with it’s 3rd Anniversary ride. Like these bikes, events are stacked high in February. Here’s my picks for what’s hot in February, followed by a litany of other events on the Westside. You can also find my picks at Google Calendars.

What’s hot: C.R.A.N.K. Mob, Bikerowave, Crimaminal Mass, and LA Bike Masterplan (Storm the Bastille!)

  • LA Bike Masterplan (Storm The Bastille); February 20th, 6:30pm-8:30pm; 11338 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles 90037: LA is updating their bike masterplan, and they’re making just about the minimum effort required to seek community input. We’re going to Storm the Bastille to make our voice heard. We’ll meet at Bikerowave to ride there at 6pm.
  • C.R.A.N.K. Mob; Saturday, February 16th, 9:30pm; Sawtelle & La Grange, LA 90025: This ride is acknowledged as the best Midnight Ridazz ride. Last months lunacy included fireworks, sidewalk chalk, rooftop concerts, infections, balloons, bike mounted barbecues, and jump roping. Come out, and bring your FUN.
  • Bikerowave; M/W/Th 6:30pm-10pm, and Sat 1pm-7pm; 1816 A Berkeley St, Santa Monica 90404: The not for profit bicycle repair collective is kicking ass. You can go there and learn to fix your bike, or just fix it, for $5 an hour. Or you can just hang out and talk bikes.
  • Crimaminal Mass; Crosswalk Craps; Friday, February 15th, 6:30pm; Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave, Santa Monica 90404: Crimaminal Mass is a creative ride series that only rides in Santa Monica. This time we’ll play Crosswalk Craps, which will involve dice, some signs, some walking, and tons of fun. Plus biking!

Other awesome events:

  • Saturday Superfecta; Saturday, February 2nd, 12pm- 2am; Locations vary: Four bike events mashed together, pick your favorites - EAR Pressure, Fear Pressure, Los AngeLOPES!, and Funderstorm.
  • Bike the Vote! (for Obama); Saturday, February 2nd, 11am-2pm; Eco Village, 117 S Bimini Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90004: Strictly speaking not a Westside event, riders will bike from the EcoVillage to Marsh Street Park to make calls for Obama.
  • LABAC (Storm the Bastille); Tuesday, February 5th, 5:30pm-9pm; Metro Station, Vermont Av & Santa Monica Blvd, LA CA, 90004: Bike to the LA Bicycle Advisory Committee Meeting to make your voice hear about bike issues.

(Santa Monica Critical Mass’s 2nd Anniversary Ride)

  • Venice Critical Mass; Friday, February 29th, 7:30pm; Windward Circle, Venice: No, it’s not Santa Monica Critical Mass. If you’ve been skipping SMCM because of the police this is your ride!
  • Cub Camp; Thursdays, 9pm; Bikerowave: You’ve got to be fit for this ride, and you should be on a road bike or fixed gear. A fast paced nighttime ride through the Westside.
  • Santa Monica Boulevards Workshop; Saturday, February 9th, 9am-2:30pm; John Adams Middle School, 2426 16th St, Santa Monica 90405: This workshop on Boulevard design in Santa Monica is an ideal place for bikers to make their voice heard.
