F’N Westside Ride: Friday, 9:30pm, Mar Vista Park

Published by Alex Thompson under Events, FUN

Jon “jonnyboy” Anderson, who produced these two amazing CRANK MOB videos (June video, and July video), has come through with a post Venice Critical Mass (VCM) ride.  After VCM, what is there to do?  The Westside’s answer is a Something Else ride - the after-ride ride which inevitably occurs when not everyone is ready to go home.

The Bicycle Film Festival is in LA through Sunday. Be there, or be SQUARE!

Published by Alex Thompson under Events

The Bicycle Film Festival is in LA through Sunday. Last year this event was off the chain (some photos of that) - the best event all year. The festival opened tonight, so already all your bike friends have probably been watching awesome flicks. Get your two wheels over to the Vine Theater at 6321 Hollywood Blvd and get your movie on. And don’t miss the livest party - the B.F.F Block Party at Melrose & Heliotrope on Sunday from 12pm-8pm. Last year it ended with dancing in the streets, CRANK MOBBERY before CRANK MOB existed.

Mandeville Canyon Meeting CANCELLED

Published by Alex Thompson under Activism, Events

Rosendahl’s office has cancelled the community meeting scheduled for today, Monday, about the Mandeville Canyon Assault, and cyclist/motorist tensions in the area.

I’m sorry that this happened, as I thought it would be a step in the right direction for residents and cyclists to discuss this.

You can find more about Rosendahl’s reasons for the cancellation on LAist.

AWESOME July 4th Rides, and other events in July

Published by Alex Thompson under Events

July 4th is 1000% bikes this year with an awesome Santa Monica Critical Mass/Firewerckx Ride mash up, and a race to the beach put on by Los Angeles Brakeless earlier in the day. Other events this month - the increasingly amazing CRANK MOB, Storm the Bastille on Bastille Day, Venice Critical Mass, some important Santa Monica City Council meetings, and probably a Friends of the Friendless ride.

Bicycle Film Festival Seeks Volunteers for July 17th-21st

Published by Alex Thompson under Events, FUN

The Bicycle Film Festival comes to LA July 17th through the 21st.  Last year the film festival was a blast, and the afterparty in the Bicycle District was awesome.  I’m sure organizers will make this year even better.  They need volunteers to help them though.  If you’re willing to help then email Ashira Siegel at pinkfixie at yahoo dot com.

This Coming Tuesday: Bikes at Santa Monica City Council

Published by Alex Thompson under Activism, Events

I wrote Monday about an important Santa Monica City Council meeting on Tuesday where the council discussed the Land Use and Circulation Element draft (LUCE). When the LUCE is approved it will act as the guiding force for transportation planning in Santa Monica for decades, so it’s important that cyclists make their voice heard. This coming Tuesday there is another meeting, and again the LUCE process will be on the agenda. If you’re interested in cycling & urban planning in Santa Monica I urge you to attend. LUCE will be discussed as item 8-B, following the budget discussions on 8-A. Those begin at 6:45pm, so you can safely arrive at 7:45pm at City Hall (1685 Main St) and not miss any of the action.
