Thanks to CRANK MOB (photos) and life, I missed out on the Bicycle Film Festival this weekend. What I was most disappointed by was missing the artistic cycling demonstrations by Ines Brunn. Basically, artistic cycling (Wikipedia) is like fixed gear tricks on drugs. Go watch this video to see what I mean - I guarantee you’ll be glad you did.
Rossangeles just posted up this recap video of the Bicycle Film Festival Block Party, which I first saw on Mikey Wally’s blog. At 1:30 into the video you’ll see Brunn do some amazing things. Even more amazing - she does it on the absolutely horrendous cement on Heliotrope, which is kriss krossed with nasty grooves and cracks:

Jon Anderson of Midnight Ridazz just released this amazing CRANK MOB video. Many videos have come out of C-MOB, but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. That’s no offense to the other video producers, it’s just that Jon is in video production. Clearly the CRAKN GODs filled him with the CRANKY spirit and writ this mad awesome video. CRANK MOB is tomorrow - watch this five times to get in the spirit:
Have you heard of the International Ride Hall of Fame? No? Well, they’re a completely fictional entity which I invented because the ROB0101110TZ ride (Sara Bond’s Flickr set) was such a success. We rode all over LA, and had an awesome time. What’s more, it was a totally unique experience.
I try to make Cub Camp as often as possible, but this Thursday I just couldn’t make it. I had a good excuse, but I’m definitely disappointed to miss Cub Camp #69. Anyhow, I thought I’d force y’all to look at some photos from last week’s Cub Camp, which was a lot of fun. (Flickr set)
In this one Jon Luskin is feeding Paul Bringetto his burrito while Paul does a trackstand. I’ve seen better trackstands and better burrito consumption in my day:
The 3rd AWSUMEST ride of the month is a surprise, unleashed on the community by JAZ and KNITTENS - the ROB0101011TZ RIDE!!
The ride meets at CRANK MOB PARK, aka Media Park in Culver City at Venice & Canfield), at 9:30pm this Saturday. Organizers describe it as ” A ride a little like CRANK MOB, and a lot like the end of the world,” and go on to say that it will be both further and faster than CRANK MOB, and will explore Southern areas of LA previously untouched by large party rides. AWSUM, I’m there. Make sure your bike is decent, all but the strongest riders will have trouble keeping up on a beach cruiser.
On March 18th the universally loved Marcus McKenzie brought an incredible project idea to the Midnight Ridazz. He, and his partners in SMASH Architecture, had a 40 foot decommissioned city bus that they wanted to customize. They wanted to know if the Midnight Ridazz were interested in using this bus a touring vehicle, and customizing it for that purpose? The answer was a thuderous YAY, and a few whimpering “nays”.
I have good news: they that say “Yay” got together, and they’re making it happen. Specifically, SMASH Architecture is offering free labor and design work to build a custom touring bus for Ridazz road trips. The Yaysayers will take care of administration, planning trips, and raising the funds for materials and operations. This bus will facilitate big road trips of up to 30 riders to places like Portland, San Diego, and Austin, and assure that we absolutely blow locals’ minds on arrival.
