Is it okay for a law enforcement officer to drive an SUV aggressively towards a group of cyclists who have broken absolutely no laws, at night, with his headlights lights off? Well, this specific Beverly Hills Police Department officer seems to think it was a good idea, heck, maybe it even taught us a “lesson”. About what, I’m still not sure, but please do read on.
Here’s the jist of the story: Continue Reading »

(this is a guest post by Stephen Roullier, better known to Midnight Ridazz as Mr. Rollers, about a uniquely Westside biking Mother’s Day. If you would like to guest post contact alexcthompson@gmail.com)
No doubt inspired by my near constant presence on a bike these days, my Mom mentioned to me recently that she’d like to try riding a bike sometime. My Mom, while in pretty decent health, is 79 years old and claims that she hasn’t been on a bike since way before I was born, but who am I to deny my dear old Mum her wish?
I wasn’t quite sure at first how to make this wish a reality, but then I remembered the bike rental facilities along the bike path in Venice and that they had a variety of bikes including tricycles, which I thought might be a good idea for someone who hasn’t balanced on a bike in a long time.

Stephen Box forwarded this message from the LA Wheelmen:
Sadly -
Harvey Hetland, loyal LAWheelmen member, excellent cyclist, Grand Tour rider, RAGBRAI rider, and friend of many has lost his life on a bike ride on Wednesday, 03/05/08 …
He and his companion, Christie Edinger, were on their way home after riding up to Montrose with the Griffith Park group … They rode up to La Tuna - and on the way down, on a curve with Christie behind him, Harvey was in the lane and was passed on his right by an automobile … He was not hit by the car - but he lost control of his bike and he “went down” … The hospital personnel said “he didn’t make it” …..
So sudden - and so sad …
His church, Westminster Presbyterian, is planning for a memorial service for Harvey next week (626 794 7141) …
The La Tuna Canyon homeowners group (www.latunacanyon.com) would like support for their efforts to make La Tuna safer with slower speeds and a marked bicycle lane. Your help would be appreciated by Harvey and all of his bicycling friends.
Harvey will be missed.
Stay safe …..
Do be safe out there,
AT
