Old Photos: Bikerowave originals, SWARM, et al

Published by Alex Thompson at 12:01 am under FUN

Part two of the old bike photos series, part one here. You can find a whole bunch of em here, on Picasa.Alec Schwarz, who is best known for his beautiful cycling caps, stands in front of the Bikerowave. Behind him is our door, featuring some of his artwork - stencil work of cars with spewing forth clouds of exhaust, with some of the clouds saying “we will look back on this as the dark ages”, and others with skulls. That’s quintessentially Alec, the mix of fun, activism, the ominous, aesthetic and creative.
Gern Trowbridge, above, is the undisputed top contributor to Bikerowave in it’s first year of operation. When you’re at Bikerowave, you’re probably wrenching with some of his equipment, using his stand, and even if not that, you’re standing on a floor he arranged to be donated. That’s not even getting into the contributions he’s made to modifying our space. Kick ass Gern!
This is Iron Megan, frame builder, track racer, and bike messenger, and Jack Lindquist, Bike Kitchen cook, bike messenger, carbon fiber engineer, and one of the top track riders in Southern California. They’re both looking bored at a SWARM potluck at the A-condo. Jack and I like to talk shit to each other, and I’m pretty sure I win the trophy this month with this photo. Got you Jack!
The same potluck. That’s Lars Lehtonen creator of BikeBoom. Before MidnightRidazz.com BikeBoom was THE resource for finding out what was going on. The other person pictured with the jackass missing teeth grin is some dorky Westsider who blogs.

Finally, this last photo I didn’t take. It’s the Los Angelopes bike jousting on the Ballona Creek Bridge during Fear Pressure. This is the same crew which brings you Cub Camp and catalyzes so much of the fun at CRANK Mob. I couldn’t make the ride but you can bet I’ll be at the next Los Angelopes gathering on Saturday, March 1st.
